Why We Need National Deaf Schools Museum

Why a National Deaf Schools Museum is needed…❤

Adonia: Hello! I’m here at Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind. Look at the year date. It says it has been established in 1858. Is that true? No, the private school was actually started in 1849 by a Deaf founder named James A. Watterson. Later, the state funded the school in 1852. Long story short, the second private school was established by another founder named Joseph H. Johnson and became State-funded in 1860. Why am I telling you this story? Because ASL Rose’s goal is to establish National Deaf Schools Museum so we can share and cherish true stories about how Deaf schools came to be!
